Choose Deposit or Full Payment as the Default in Checkout

The default payment selection matters because it shapes the customer’s first decision in checkout without taking away the option to choose a different valid payment amount. If a school offers both a deposit and a full-payment option, the first selected choice influences how customers move through checkout. That does not remove flexibility, but it does shape the path of least resistance.

Why the default choice in checkout matters

If a school offers both a deposit and a full-payment option, the first selected choice influences how customers move through checkout. That does not remove flexibility, but it does shape the path of least resistance.

For some schools, deposit-first supports cash-flow strategy. For others, full-payment-first keeps the finance flow simpler.

What changed in TIDEFORCE

  • Schools can choose the default payment amount shown in checkout when deposit mode is available.
  • The available defaults are Full amount or Deposit amount.
  • The selection applies consistently across desktop and mobile checkout layouts.
  • If deposit mode is not valid in the current case, Tideforce falls back to the available valid payment flow.

A preference, not a separate payment workflow

This update does not change whether a deposit can be offered in the first place. It changes which valid option is highlighted by default once deposit mode is already enabled.

The experience is booked — how much is due today is your call.

That makes the improvement practical without forcing teams to relearn their existing payment setup.

Why this helps schools using Mollie and similar flows

For online payment flows, especially when the school intentionally wants a deposit-first behaviour, a clear default reduces friction at the moment of payment choice.

At the same time, customers keep the option to move to the full amount if that is also allowed.

How to use the new setting

  1. Open Administration -> Payment.
  2. Open the deposit settings and confirm that deposit mode is enabled.
  3. Set Default customer payment amount to either Full amount or Deposit amount.
  4. Save the setting and review the checkout flow on both desktop and mobile.
Important: this release changes the default checkout selection only. It should not be used to imply separate rental-deposit or broader roadmap deposit workflows.

Why this matters for outdoor sports schools

TIDEFORCE is the Commerce & Operations Platform for Outdoor Sports Schools, so even a narrow workflow improvement matters when it removes friction inside the connected daily operation. In this case, Default Checkout Payment Amount improves a recurring moment in how a school team works with guests, bookings, payments or rentals without inventing a bigger product story than the feature actually supports.

Frequently asked questions
01

What exactly is new here?

+

Schools can now decide whether checkout preselects the full amount or the deposit amount when deposit payments are already enabled.

02

Can the customer still switch to the other option?

+

Yes. The update changes the default selection, not the available valid choices in checkout.

03

Where is the setting located?

+

In Administration -> Payment -> Deposit settings.

04

Does this apply on mobile too?

+

Yes. The same default selection behaviour is intended to apply across the desktop and mobile checkout layouts.

05

Does this mean Tideforce now supports rental deposit workflows?

+

No. This is a checkout preference for the existing deposit-payment setup. It should not be confused with separate roadmap deposit features elsewhere in the product story.
